Bansko

Bansko is one of the economical and administrative centres of south-west Bulgaria, located 160 km. away from Bulgaria’s capital – Sofia and about 50 km. away from the national border with Greece. The city lies on 925m. above the sea level on the banks of the Glanze river. It is precisely this attitude that makes Bansko an ideal place for living and an all-seasons resort.

As Bansko has the statute of a national resort, the town and the surrounding area has good infrastructure and connecting routes with other parts of the country.

Two national roads, connected with international highways pass through the city. There are regular bus lines and railway services as well.

The local population of Bansko is about 9 000 people, however haiday peaks this number doubles due to the flow of Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The city offers a lot of public services such as banks, schools, kinder gardens, health services, etc.

Many sport events are held in Bansko during the winter season: Pirin Cup, National Championship of Snowboard, Balkan Open Cup and the National Championship in ski Alpine discipline. In addition, mountain hiking and biking or extreme sport experiences like dry-tooling are practiced here during summer.


Many music festivals with diverse programs take place in Bansko during summer time and the autumn season. The most popular among them are Pirin Folk and The International Jazz Festival. Over the last 10 years, Bansko has won recognition as one of the leading winter centres in Bulgaria. The city has the highest dynamics of private investments in the tourist and residence sector. The tendency of the development business is to build up sites, that correspond to European quality standards in the quality and the pack of the offered services.
